ISNTREE SPOT SAVER MUGWORT
GAUZE MASK REVIEW
KATHERINE SPOWART on OCTOBER 11, 2019
Sheet masks are a wonderful addition to a skincare routine, and a topic I have covered many times. What you won’t often find me writing about is an individual mask. My theory with sheet masks is that it’s more about the frequency of use than the type, in terms of results. We all have our favorite materials or scents or immediate results, but in terms of long-term changes in our skin, I really just think it’s about marinating your face regularly. Having said that, this Isntree Mugwort mask is really rather special, and that’s why today I’m giving you an in-depth review on how it’s become a weekly staple for me.
*PR gifted. This does not affect my review in any way. All opinions are my own.
WHAT IS IT?
This is a sheet mask- essentially a sheet soaked in essence, left on the face for around 15-45 minutes, then removed and the remaining essence patted into the skin. The point of sheet masks in a very general sense is to hydrate and provide more effective benefits of the essence, as the sheet prevents as much of the formula evaporating.
Isntree describes their mask as “a soothing mask for relieving sensitive skin”. It is supposed to calm irritated skin, as well as provide hydration. It should also help with the healing process of blemishes.
Artemisia Princeps Extract , Water, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Glycereth-26, 1,2-Hexanediol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Xanthan Gum, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Tromethamine
The ingredients list only includes 10 ingredients, which is extremely short! The combination is to moisturize and calm, and all ingredients are EWG graded safe if that is important to you.
Mugwort is, of course, the main marketed ingredient here and the essence contains 45% of the extract. Mugwort is known for its soothing properties and has become somewhat of a star ingredient on the K-beauty scene in the past year, as discussed in this Allure article (https://www.allure.com/story/mugwort-benefits-korean-skin-care-ingredient). Countless brands have released Mugwort products, all with the aim of soothing and calming sensitive, irritated skin. Mugwort is historically renowned in Korea for its antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties, and is being used in skincare for these purposes.
The mask is made of a very soft, thin gauze sheet. Although the fit isn’t perfect for my face, it is easy to fold and stays on skin, which is important for maximum effect.
There is not an abundance of essence but it is enough to keep the mask on for 30 minutes without drying out. The essence is runny and clear, and has no detectable scent. The essence leaves my skin deeply hydrated which I love!
I rarely feel the urge to write about a mask, but this Isntree sheetmask really stands out from the crowd. I, as many do, deal with a lot of heat, redness and some sensitivity in my skin. I also get small red pimples quite frequently. Recently, my skin was pretty disturbed by some traveling and I had more redness, more blemishes and overall, much more sensitive skin. I tried this mask and the results were really astounding.
It calmed my redness dramatically and helped soothe the inflamed skin. The redness was completely down after wearing the mask for about 30 minutes. The blemishes seemed less angry and after using several masks in a week, I felt that they hugely complimented the healing process. I’ve been using them about once a week ever since! They’re just so good for soothing and reducing redness.
While I love the results, the actual enjoyment of the material and essence is also a win. These aspects of a sheet mask are very important to me and I’ve become rather picky. As I described, the material adheres well, feels good on my skin, and doesn’t dry out extremely quickly.
